Introduction-Fall 2011

  • This is not a class to make you feel guilty.
  • You will get more in one week than you can do all year.  It’s like trying to take a drink from a fire hydrant.  You will get a little in, but you will miss a lot as well.
  • Your goal is to change 1 thing that will stay with you always
  • This is Sister Tanner’s 21st year teaching this parenting class.
  • Her promise: If you do the homework each week.  You won’t be the same person in 10 weeks that you are right now, but you have to do the homework to change.
  • All of your relationships will change when you change.
  • About Sister Tanner:  She had 10 children in 12 years, they were 14 months apart, her 3rd  child was a vibrant red and very opinionated.  She had to study how to become a better parent.  Her favorite text book is the current Ensign.  She wasn’t to help us get from generals to specifics.  She has taught at BYU-I Education Week for 9 years.
 Classes listed in the syllabus:
1.     House of Order
2.     Teaching Children to Feel The Spirit
3.     Traditions
4.     Stewardship Delegation
5.     Competition vs. Cooperation
6.     Praise vs. Encouragement
7.     Work
      • Only 17% of eligible young men in North America & Canada go on missions.  Their biggest problems are separation anxiety and not knowing how to work hard.
8.     Service
9.     Gratitude/Manners
10. Marriage
11. Receiving Personal Revelation (maybe)

She may choose to change the order or topic at any time.  You can purchase a syllabus for $10.  It’s useful, but not necessary in taking the class.
