Class #6 Competition vs. Cooperation (Follow Up)

  • You need to find a role model and seek to become like them, but not "better" than them.
  • Cheering for your team is different than cheering against your competition.
  • Pride is the feeling
  • I'm going to beat you because I am better than you--pride
  • When you are in it for each other rather than beating the other one that is--humility
  • Set goals to beat yourself...Example:  if you have a certain number of rebounds in one game then your goal is to increase that number for the next game.  To be better than you were last time, but not better than someone else.   Example: If you are in cross country try beating your own time by a few seconds in the next race, but not beating someone else.
  • Play the "grateful" game when your kids are in the middle of completition.
This weekend someone was thanking Sister Tanner for having this information available on the blog because she couldn't attend class.  Sister Tanner asked her if she could follow what was being put on the blog even though she wasn't in class and if it was helpful.  She said one of the things that was most helpful was the comments that others have posted telling what they have done in their families.  Sister Tanner reinforced that examples of what works for others is where the testimony of the principle is.  She reminded us to post comments for others to read.
